Webasto showcases its thermal management systems at Busworld Europe

Stockdorf, Germany- Webasto AG., an automotive supplier, Webasto’s High Voltage Heaters (HVH) convert electrical energy into heat at an efficiency close to 100 percent. At the Busworld Europe exhibition in Brussels from October 7 to 12 (Hall 7, Booth 7113).The company is exhibiting the latest members of its HVH deliver 10 and 12 kilowatts (kW) of heat output respectively.

These are the second generation models of the 800-volt heater to enter series production. Together with the new CoolTop 80-e (CT 80-e) electric rooftop air-conditioner, the heating and cooling units form the basis for feel-good temperatures all year round from the driver’s cab to the passenger cabin. In conjunction with the intelligent Cronus Smart control unit, Webasto also combines various components from its heating and airconditioning technology portfolio to create the centrally controllable electric Thermal Management (eTM) system, which keeps both the traction batteries and the passenger cabin at the ideal operating temperature.

The heating and cooling systems, along with the new CoolTop 80-e (CT 80-e) electric rooftop air-conditioner, are what enable comfortable temperatures throughout the year in both the driver's cab and the passenger compartment. Webasto additionally combines several parts from the sophisticated Cronus Smart control unit with its centralized electric Thermal Management (eTM) system, which maintains the appropriate operating temperature for both the traction batteries and the passenger cabin, was developed by combining its heating and cooling technology portfolio.Top of Form

Pioneering electric heating

Webasto's new models, HVH 100 Compact and HVH 100 Compact +, provide efficient electric heating for various applications. They deliver 10 kW of heat, are only 7 cm (smaller than an A4 sheet), and operate from 250 to 880 volts. They communicate via LIN bus, making integration into vehicles easier.

The HVH 100 Compact + models with a heat output of 10 kilowatts and the HVH 120 with an output of 12 kilowatts are CAN-protocol compatible, facilitating integration into vehicles. Compact design and flexible connectivity options give manufacturers integration flexibility. High-Voltage Heaters maintain maximum efficiency with precise and step less control of output and target temperature.

Webasto's High-Voltage Heaters have a unique heating layer on the heat exchanger for instant heat and quick discharge of capacitors. They're cyber-attack protected per ISO 21434 and functionally safe per ISO 26262. These heaters have a service life guarantee of at least 15,000 hours or 15 years.

Electric air conditioning technology premiere

Webasto is showcasing its first all-electric rooftop air conditioner, the CoolTop 80-e (CT 80-e), designed for small buses. It offers 7.5 kW cooling capacity and an air flow rate of CT80-e is, 2,100 cubic meters per hour. Optionally, it includes a PEPA-F air filter for virus removal. Operating between 200 and 430 volts, it works in temperatures from -20 to +45 degrees Celsius and uses eco-friendly R1234yf coolant.

Heating and air conditioning technology from a single source

Webasto's electric Thermal Management (eTM) system is a modular solution that manages electric heating and air conditioning, controlling both battery temperature and passenger/driver comfort. For the first time, Webasto combines various components to tailor the eTM to specific vehicle needs. The system is based on a heat pump, heat exchangers, High-Voltage Heaters, underfloor heating, and electric rooftop air conditioners to ensure ideal temperatures throughout the vehicle. High efficiency and intelligent heat recovery from the electric motor result in peak energy efficiency. Vehicles with eTM achieve up to 40% greater range by maintaining uniform battery temperatures in all seasons. The scalable and easily implemented system provides manufacturers with flexible design options for rapid vehicle integration.

Greater electric range with Range Plus

Webasto is showcasing "Range Plus" at the exhibition, a retrofit air heater for electric minibuses and vans. It creates a separate heating circuit in the vehicle, reducing the strain on traction batteries during winter. Range Plus is compatible with eco-friendly HVO fuel and can extend the overall range of e-minibuses by up to 80 kilometers in cold conditions.

Mr. Heike Niehues, Executive Vice President Webasto Customized Solutions, said that, Webasto is highlighting its business identity as a systems partner for e-mobility at Busworld 2023. Numerous electric special-purpose cars are already running on our Standard Battery System. It only makes sense for us to expand our range with totally comprehensive thermal management solutions. This will enable us to improve on-board comfort and vehicle performance. "Our customers benefit from perfectly matched components and corresponding expertise in the field of electrification on the one hand, while on the other hand, we provide a broad range of services to closely support customers' electrification projects right from the start."
