Turin, Italy- Iveco Group., and Politecnico di Torino have recently solidified a collaboration agreement aimed at pioneering research endeavors within the mobility sector. Over the next three years, the institutions will spearhead studies and research initiatives in the cutting-edge realm of commercial vehicle design, with a primary emphasis on sustainable innovation.

The ceremonial signing occurred at the esteemed Rectorate of Politecnico di Torino, graced by the presence of Guido Saracco, Rector of Politecnico di Torino; Giuliana Mattiazzo, Vice-Rector for Technology Transfer at Politecnico di Torino; Francesco Tutino, Chief Human Resources & Information Technology Officer at Iveco Group; and Marco Liccardo, Chief Technology & Digital Officer at Iveco Group.

The collaborative efforts will center on harnessing the potential of digitalization, complemented by Artificial Intelligence algorithms, in crafting novel propulsion systems that bolster the transition towards a more sustainable future. Both partners have outlined specific objectives for the collaboration, particularly in areas concerning energy management and the mitigation of environmental footprints, which can be achieved through the adoption of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) criteria and eco-design methodologies. LCA, a pivotal tool in advancing the European Green Deal and environmental sustainability, offers a comprehensive evaluation methodology capable of addressing diverse impacts on human health, ecosystem well-being, and resource availability.

This landmark collaboration extends beyond the realms delineated in the agreement. Iveco Group has officially pledged its support as a sponsor for Biennale Tecnologia 2024, an event organized by Politecnico di Torino focusing on the intersection of technology and society, and the promotion of technical culture and scientific dissemination. Themed "Realistic Utopias," this year's edition, scheduled from April 17th to 21st, invites a diverse audience to explore new realms by amalgamating imagination with design, and bridging ideas with reality to unveil unprecedented perspectives.

Beyond research, the collaboration also extends to sports initiatives. Since 2023, Iveco Group and its brand IVECO, specializing in the design, production, and marketing of light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles, have taken up the mantle of Title Sponsors for the CUS Torino rugby team, affiliated with the Turin University Sports Centre, the largest multi-sport club at the national level.

Rector Saracco states, "Iveco Group stands as one of Politecnico's longstanding partners, with numerous success stories stemming from our collaboration, including sponsorship of Biennale Tecnologia and the CUS rugby team. With this new agreement, we envision pioneering projects in mobility and the commercial vehicles of the future, alongside significant professional opportunities for our students."

Francesco Tutino, Chief Human Resources & Information Technology Officer at Iveco Group, echoed this sentiment, remarking, "This agreement marks another milestone in our longstanding collaboration with Politecnico di Torino, now fortified with a more streamlined structure for the myriad activities that have long linked Iveco Group to the University. Continuous dialogue with the research sphere and centers of excellence remains paramount for Iveco Group, particularly as our industry navigates swiftly evolving landscapes and grapples with new challenges. We firmly believe in the value of ongoing education, recognizing that our capacity for innovation, adaptation, and excellence stems from the cultivation of knowledge and skills."
