Irving, Texas - Caterpillar Inc., a construction machinery manufacturer, has unveiled a sweeping five-year, $100 million workforce development initiative aimed at strengthening U.S. manufacturing and preparing workers for the future of advanced industry. Indiana will be among the first states to benefit, receiving up to $5 million to support training and upskilling programs statewide.
The investment, announced as part of Caterpillar’s 100th anniversary celebration, is designed to attract and equip the next generation of manufacturing talent with the skills needed for a rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
Ms. Christy Pambianchi, Chief Human Resources Officer at Caterpillar, said, “The future workforce will need skills for what comes next. Our teams are developing innovative training programs to help workers prepare for the worksite of tomorrow. Starting here in Indiana, we’re creating pathways to high-quality, sustainable jobs in U.S. manufacturing.”
Indiana Governor Braun welcomed the initiative, calling it a testament to the state’s manufacturing strength and business-friendly environment.
The announcement took place at Caterpillar’s Lafayette, Indiana, large engine facility—currently undergoing a $725 million capital expansion, one of the largest manufacturing investments in the company’s global history. The expanded facility will help meet growing power generation demands driven by data centers, artificial intelligence, and critical infrastructure projects across the country.
Mr. Jason Kaiser, Group President of Caterpillar Energy & Transportation, said, “Energy demand is rising faster than ever. Engines built in Lafayette will deliver reliable power to support essential industries and communities in the U.S. and worldwide.”
