Scania launches Electric Bus platform solution at Busworld 2023

Södertälje, Sweden- Scania AB., committed electrification journey began in 2007 with field tests of hybrid electric buses. With the introduction of the new Scania battery-electric bus platform and complementary e-mobility solutions, Scania advances along its electrification roadmap to meet the set Science-Based Targets for CO2 reduction and to provide silent zero-emission transport for people and societies worldwide.

Scania's e-mobility offering includes everything from site energy and operational analyses to charging devices, finance, installation, and a variety of other services, guiding customers through the implementation process and ensuring dependable and efficient operations.

The new platform is being introduced in low-entry 42 buses, which will be developed in close collaboration with bodybuilding partners. These buses will be available in two performance levels a four-battery variation with 416 kWh installed capacity and a five-battery variant with 520 kWh installed capacity. This amounts to a range of more than 400 km for the former and more than 500 km for the latter under ideal conditions.

Mr. Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management, People Transport Solutions at Scania, said that, Range, performance, and battery responsibility have all been significant topics in the development of our new battery electric bus platform, all of which are critical to developing viable and sustainable transportation systems. When combined with our most recent e-mobility services and solutions, this means we will be able to deliver comprehensive and extremely competitive solutions for urban applications in all of our current regions.

It is critical for actors in the transportation sector to address the environmental impact of emissions as well as product life cycle management. Scania's operations are always aligned with the aim of sustainable development, with a focus on managing the impact on both people and the environment across the value chain.

Northvolt and Scania collaborated to design and manufacture the sustainably created batteries, ensuring top quality and overall accountability. The new bus platform is equipped with one of the most sustainable, heavy commercial vehicle batteries on the market, as well as higher battery capacity and range. It also includes more advanced safety and digital functionality.

Low-entry 4x2 BEV with customizable specs for medium and heavy-duty use in urban, suburban, and regional settings (Class I and Class II).

Two chassis widths (2500 mm and 2550 mm) and flexible axle gear ratios for challenging terrains.

Upgraded electric machine with integrated cooling, cyber security compliance, 300 kW peak and 250 kW continuous power.

High-capacity battery packs (416 kWh and 520 kWh) developed with Northvolt, providing over 400 km and 500 km range.
