Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus and Coach Sp. z o.o., has signed an agreement with the City of Gniezno for the delivery of 10 electric buses and associated charging infrastructure. This strategic investment represents a significant step towards sustainable mobility in Gniezno. The first electric buses of the Urbino 12 electric model, along with charging stations, will be delivered to the city by the end of 2024.

Gniezno strategically invests in electric mobility, procuring 10 Solaris electric buses to modernize public transportation, enhance air quality, and reduce CO2 emissions. The agreement includes delivery of charging infrastructure and initial 5 buses within 11 months, with the remaining 5 to arrive by March 2025. This marks the city's first step toward a zero-emission public transport fleet.

This time, the buses will run entirely on electricity and produce no emissions, which will undoubtedly improve the city's air quality. A central electric motor and Solaris High Energy batteries will be installed in every Urbino 12 electric 12-meter bus. Through the use of an a pantograph and plug-in connector, batteries will be charged. Gniezno has chosen an inverted pantograph, which is a gadget that is fixed at the charging station and that lowers onto the roof of the bus to be charged.

The low-floor Urbino 12 electric buses are designed to accommodate passengers with impairments and offer sufficient room for those bringing strollers. The ten buses will all have air conditioning and a cutting-edge passenger information system installed. Thirteen of the thirty-one seats on board will be easily accessible from the low floor, requiring no further stairs.

The infrastructure for charging the buses as well as the buses themselves are covered under the contract amount. Five dual 120 kW (2x 60 kW) depot chargers and two single mobile chargers from Solaris will be delivered to Gniezno, allowing for flexible management of the fleet of electric buses.
