Tata Motors delivers 60 Ultra Urban electric buses for Ahmedabad’s BRTS

Mumbai- Tata Motors Ltd of Mumbai, a commercial vehicle manufacturer has announced delivery of 60 Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric buses1 to Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) for operation on the city’s Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor. Tata Motors will also be setting up required charging infrastructure and support systems to ensure smooth functioning of the buses.

The 24-seater zero-emission buses have been supplied under the FAME II initiative by means of a Gross Cost Contract (GCC)2 with AJL, The Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric buses are powered by full-electric drivetrains, with a maximum power of 328hp and a maximum torque of 3000 Nm. Their roomy interiors can be customised as per application and regulations. Designed to provide a fatigue-free driving experience without clutch and gear shifting, the Ultra Urban 9/9 e-buses are equipped with a regenerative braking system, new-generation telematics, and a high-security Intelligent Transport System (ITS) to offer smooth and efficient operations.

1Tata Ultra Urban 9/9 AC electric buses is 9m in length with a wheelbase of 4.92m and air suspension, powered with a permanent magnet alternating current (PMAC) traction motor with continuous output of 145kW (Max: 245 kW or 328hp) with the range of 0 to 2500 rev / min and continuous torque of 1145Nm (Max: 3000Nm). Battery type; Li-Ion Battery Pack. Capacity: 124kW-hr (expandable). Charging time is 2 to 2.5 hrs with fast charging. Passenger service provisions include charging ports, Wi-Fi hotspot for on-the-go connectivity and wide entry and exit passages. The full-electric buses come with Intelligent Transport System (ITS), telematics system, regenerative braking system, amongst other features for efficient and smooth operations.
