Tata Motors signs PPA with Tata Power Renewable Energy

Mumbai- Tata Motors Ltd., and Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a Tata Power subsidiary has signed a purchase power agreement (PPA) for the construction of a new 12MWp on-site solar plant at Tata Motors' Pune commercial vehicle production facility. The system is anticipated to produce 17.5 million units of power annually, or roughly 17.2% of the annualized demand, potentially reducing carbon emissions by almost 12400 tonnes/kWh annually.

The solar project will significantly advance Tata Motors' long-term goals and is scheduled to be put into operation six months after the PPA is signed. Installations on rooftops will be part of the PPA. This 12MWp increases the 8.73MWp already in place, bringing the total for Tata Motors' CVBU (Commercial Vehicle), Pune, to 20.73MWp. To accommodate the rising demand for renewable energy, the business intends to increase the solar capacity of its Pune plant over the coming several years.

Mr. Vishal Badshah, Vice President, Commercial Vehicle Operations, Tata Motors Limited, commenting on the project said, “Tata Motors is dedicated to sustainability, aiming for net-zero emissions. Our strategy includes increasing the use of renewable energy through on-site and off-site measures to decarbonize our plants. As a ‘Future Ready’ company and a RE100 signatory, we are actively transitioning to renewable energy sources and this partnership marks a significant step toward our goal.”
