Telangana awards electric bus contract to Olectra

Hyderabad/Pune – Olectra Greentech Ltd (formerly Goldstone Infratech Ltd) of Hyderabad through its strategic tie-up with BYD Co Ltd of Shenzhen, China, and its sister concern, Evey Trans Pvt Ltd (EVEY) of Hyderabad has received an a letter of award (LoA) from Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRCT) of Hyderabad to supply 300 -  35-seater, low-floor, 12m non-AC electric buses based on a gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, valued at USD 62.5mn.

The buses will be procured by EVEY from Olectra within 20 months and Evey would take responsibility for their maintenance for 12 years. The Olectra e-Bus has a range of 200 km on a single charge and has several features like electronically controlled air suspension for a comfortable ride, CCTV cameras, an emergency button, and USB sockets for each seat.

Mr. KV Pradeep, Chairman, and Managing Director, Olectra Greentech said, “Olectra is working with various State Transport Undertakings across Pune, Mumbai (BEST), Goa, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Surat, Ahmedabad, Silvassa and Nagpur and we are happy to now add Telangana too" our electric buses have been making round trips from Hyderabad Airport for the last three years and the company will "stick to its schedule" to deliver it to TSRTC on time to improve the overall commuting experience., Mr. K V Pradeep added.

112m electric bus is rated at 18t gvw and powered by in-wheel motors rated at 180KW and powered using BYD Goldstone FE-type Lithium-ion phosphate batteries with short circuit protection, over temperature control function and lightning protection. The low floor chassis is 12m in length with a wheelbase of 6,100mm. It has electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS) front and rear axles with a seating capacity of 39 and an optional provision for one wheelchair. It can be fully charged in 4 to 5 hours and has a range of up to 250km. It also has a regenerative braking system which enables the bus to recover a part of the kinetic energy lost in braking.
