Bangalore- Volvo Buses India Private Limited., has secured an order for 122 premium luxury coaches under the Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) Scheme, a major initiative run by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and launched by the government's Commerce & Transport (C&T) Department to enhance rural connectivity.

With the help of the LAccMI Scheme, the state's public transportation system will be improved, giving residents access to top-notch public transit. The Volvo 9600 buses, operating under the names Jagannath Express & Laxmi Express, would link important business centers and districts to Jagannath Dham Puri and thae state capital, Bhubaneswar. Pushback luxury seater, semi-sleeper, and sleeper arrangements are standard on Volvo 9600 multi-axle 15-meter coaches.

Government programs that seek to improve transportation infrastructure and support the socioeconomic development of both rural and urban areas will be significantly impacted by this for some time. One of the significant actions done by the Odisha government to preserve and advance Jagannath culture throughout all of the state's villages is this.

The Volvo D8K (8-liter) engine that powers the Volvo 9600 platform produces 350 horsepower (260 kW) at 2200 RPM and 1350 Nm of torque between 1200 and 1600 RPM. For bus operators, the fuel-efficient engine and specially built drivetrain mean a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and more uptime.

The Volvo 9600 is marketed as the first OEM factory-built sleeper coach in the industry to meet AIS 119 criteria and is equipped with a number of industry-first features.

To offer comfortable alternatives for customers, the 122 Volvo 9600 coaches will be available in three different configurations: 55 pushback premium seats, 51 semi-sleeper seats, or 40 sleeper berths. It has standard ABS, Electronic Braking System (EBS)-supported Electronic Disc Brakes, and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for safety. The coach's interior is furnished with Fire Retardant (FR) grade materials, and the engine and passenger sections have Fire Detection & Suppression Systems (FDSS) installed.
