BharatBenz and Reliance Industries comes up with a luxury fuel cell bus concept

Goa- Bharat Benz., a division of Daimler Truck AG in collaboration with Reliance Industries showcased India's first intercity luxury concept coach powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology at the 4th Energy Transitions Working Group meeting under India’s G20 Presidency at Goa. Hon Chief Minister of Goa Mr Pramod Sawant along with G20 Delegates graced the event.

This luxury intercity coach is powered by Fuel cell system, which is designed and developed by Reliance Industries. This Bus delivers a Gross system power of 127 Kw & Net power of 105 Kw (equivalent to 300 HP in line with current Diesel bus for intercity applications). The intercity bus can travel approximately 400 km on single hydrogen fill and can bring long distance travel between cities on clean fuel like Hydrogen.

India has launched the National Green Hydrogen mission on 4th Jan 2023. this will require synergizing demand and supply and innovative and affordable solution. Mobility plays a critical role in the above mission as Indian transport contributes 25-35% of PM 2.5 emissions besides 80% of the crude is imported costing over 100 billion dollars to the exchequer.

Nitin Seth, the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Industries also added that the fuel cell system has been developed using components from ‘International Partners with significant localization’ and the Bus will undergo extensive trials validation & safety trials over next 12 months.

Earlier on February 6, 2023, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) unveiled a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine technology solution for heavy-duty trucks flagged off by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the India Energy Week in Bangalore.
