Bharat Charge and CHAdeMO to develop interoperable charging infrastructure

India/ Japan- Bharat Charge Association., along with CHAdeMO Association has partnered to encourage interoperable charging infrastructure in India, Based on the IS/IEC standards, the requirements for developing interoperable charging infrastructure will be adopted.

The Alliance now intends to implement the Bureau of Indian Standard's IS17017-2-6 vehicle inlet and connection standard and the IS17017-25 (taken from IEC 61851-25) EVSE standard. BCA plans for the cars to remain market (local and/or international) agnostic despite adopting international IEC standards.

The Bharat Charge Alliance (BCA) is an open platform designed to collaborate in the development of a safer and more functional eco-system for the Indian light electric vehicle market. A platform for e-mobility collaboration built around the CHAdeMO DC charging standard is the CHAdeMO Association.

With the adoption of international protocol and standards, the Alliance seeks to provide an EV charging infrastructure that is secure, reliable, and user-friendly. This will make it possible for 2W and 3W users in both B2C and B2B domains to use a shared or universal EV charging network. In order to enable affordable and flexible charging touchpoints, it is also promoting minimal changes to automobiles.

Kapil Shelke, Founder and CEO of Tork Motors said that he always believed in democratization of technology being accessible for the customer and by standardization of charging infrastructure would open up another dimension in the EV space where faster adoption is happening wherein interchangeability in charging options would thus enhance in the adoption process.

Tomomi Hakomori, the Public Affair Director at CHAdeMO Association said, “We are pleased to collaborate with BCA and contribute to improve the charging infrastructure in India, and looking forward to the flourishing e-mobility in India.”
