Cummins to manufacture battery packs in India

USA/India- Engine Manufacturer Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana plans to make an undisclosed investment in India to manufacture automotive battery packs to open up new opportunities initially in commercial vehicles.

Cummins is already working on battery segment, also recently complete acquisition of Johnson Matthey’s automotive battery system of Milton Keynes, UK in Jan 2018. Earlier in October, it acquired another battery manufacturer, Brammo Inc. of Oregon, USA in Oct 2017.

Johnson Matthey Battery Systems, part of the Johnson Matthey group and formerly called Axeon, designs and manufactures advanced lithium-ion battery systems for electric vehicles and processes over 70 million cells per year. Headquartered in Dundee, Scotland and with operations in Poland and sales offices in Coventry, England, Johnson Matthey Battery Systems produces batteries for all types of electric vehicles including urban delivery vehicles and high-performance sports cars. In October 2012 Axeon was acquired in total by Johnson Matthey, a British multinational chemicals and precious metals company headquartered in London, United Kingdom then Axeon rebranded as Johnson Matthey Battery Systems in August 2013.

Brammo, Inc. is a manufacturer of electric traction motors and traction batteries based in Ashland, Oregon, United States. Brammo marketed its motorcycles via the company's website. They were also available for sale and service at some motorcycle dealers throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. On January 15, 2015, Polaris Industries announced that it had purchased the entire electric motorcycle business from Brammo. Production of an electric motorcycle, the rebadged Victory Empulse, commenced at Polaris' factory in Spirit Lake, IA during the second half of 2015. It was announced on October 16, 2017 that Brammo's remaining assets would be acquired by Cummins.
