Leinfelden-Echterdingen/MannheimDaimler Buses GmbH.,  is collaborating with H2 MOBILITY Germany GmbH & Co. KG., to expand hydrogen tank infrastructure for transportation companies. As part of a comprehensive consulting approach, Daimler Buses will facilitate access to H2 MOBILITY's hydrogen services for buses equipped with hydrogen fuel cells.

H2 MOBILITY is a public hydrogen filling station operator, is expanding its network near transportation companies based on demand. They can also install H2 dispensers at company depots if needed. By utilizing publicly accessible filling stations operated by H2 MOBILITY, bus operators can avoid investment and operating costs, benefiting from a reliable hydrogen supply managed by an experienced provider. This partnership aims to strengthen and expand the public hydrogen infrastructure.

Mr. Mirko Sgodda, Head of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services, said, “We are pursuing a clear electrification strategy, and we are putting buses with alternative drive technologies onto the road. Like our parent company Daimler Truck, we are building on battery-electric vehicles and the hydrogen-based fuel cell. With our eCitaro fuel cell, we have had an electrically powered bus in our portfolio since 2023, which is equipped with a hydrogen-based fuel cell to extend the range. We want to offer our customers the best solutions for smooth operation – and this includes a hydrogen tank facility in the immediate vicinity, or at their own depot. With H2 MOBILITY Germany, we have found a partner that makes this possible and significantly reduces the complexity for transportation companies, from installation to ongoing operation.”

Mr. Falk Schulte-Wintrop, Director Sales & Business Development at H2 MOBILITY Germany, said, “The fleet conversion to alternative drive systems as part of the Clean Vehicle Directive is particularly successful when it is considered from the customer’s perspective. Together with Daimler Buses, we are committed to taking this path. With this cooperation, we are creating optimal solutions for hydrogen mobility in local and long-distance passenger transport. By using the public H2 MOBILITY filling station network, companies benefit from enormous cost savings, and from our technical and operational experience gained over the last ten years.”

Daimler Buses is committed to delivering comprehensive solutions for transportation companies through its electrification strategy. In collaboration with Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH and partners, they offer turnkey services for electric bus fleet operations, including customized buses and complete E or H2 infrastructure for depots.

In partnership with H2 MOBILITY Germany, Daimler Buses also provides hydrogen tank systems, simplifying the process for customers by managing everything from construction to ongoing operation of H2 filling stations.

Daimler Buses has established a clear e-roadmap for vehicle electrification across all segments, leveraging both battery-electric and hydrogen technologies in alignment with Daimler Truck's dual strategy.

The battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city bus has been in production since 2018 and now features a hydrogen fuel cell range extender. By the second half of the decade, Daimler Buses plans to introduce a battery-electric intercity bus and electrically powered coaches by the decade's end. Their goal is to offer locally CO2-neutral models in every segment by 2030, focusing initially on Europe and Latin America. By 2039, only CO2-neutral new vehicles will be sold in Europe, starting with the city bus segment by 2030.

By the end of the year, the H2 MOBILITY network will provide refueling options for buses and trucks at over 50 locations in Germany, including 34 operational stations. Since 2021, the company has been expanding existing stations and constructing new ones for heavy commercial vehicle refueling.
