New Delhi - Eastman Auto and Power Ltd (EAPL)., an automotive batteries manufacturer, has partnered with Urja Mobility., a brand of MTOW Mobility Private Limited, a commercial battery leasing provider, to supply 20,000+ lithium-ion batteries for electric three-wheelers in India. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed in February 2025, emphasizes battery leasing solutions and nationwide technology integration.

Under the agreement, Eastman will integrate Urja Mobility's IoT and software solutions into its lithium batteries, enabling remote monitoring and data analytics. This collaboration aims to drive the adoption of electric mobility in India's transportation sector.

EAPL, through its subsidiary Eastman New Energy Private Limited, will capitalize on its leadership in E-rickshaw batteries to expand its footprint in the electric three-wheeler market. The partnership focuses on developing and deploying advanced lithium-ion battery technology tailored for the EV sector.

Mr. Shekhar Singal, Managing Director at Eastman Auto and Power, said, “This partnership marks a significant milestone for Eastman as we join forces with Urja Mobility to accelerate the growth of electric mobility in India. Our cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technology, combined with Urja Mobility’s innovative battery leasing solution for electric three-wheelers, will play a crucial role in making sustainable transportation a reality for millions of people across the country.”

India's electric three-wheeler market is growing as government initiatives like the FAME II scheme drive EV adoption through incentives for vehicle purchases and charging infrastructure. With three-wheelers comprising a major share of EV sales, battery leasing has emerged as a cost-effective solution, making electric mobility more accessible for commercial operators.

The Eastman-Urja Mobility partnership aligns with India’s vision for sustainable transport, reducing fossil fuel dependence and urban air pollution. The government targets 30% EV penetration by 2030.
