Ashok Leyland has introduced their new uptime center, supporting over 100,000 BSVI vehicles with 24/7 diagnostics.
Date: September 24, 2024Chennai- In an exclusive interview with the RACE team, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, president of MHCV, Ashok Leyland explained that the new uptime center would change the dynamics of the aftermarket. All the connected BSVI vehicles has two parts of working., One is diagnostic and the other is prognostic, which is a pre-emptive attention to the vehicle.
As it is a connected vehicle, we'll be able to track all the connected vehicles from our uptime center. Our team can analyse the severity as high, low severity, very low severity case. On high severity case, this centre will help our channel partners in better diagnosis of the issues. Currently all the BSVI vehicles are monitored by our team on the subscription, which would also help our customers to understand the status of the vehicles in terms of location and the health of the components.
How many vehicles are connected? How many vehicle owners have renewed the GPS subscription?
All our BSVI vehicles are connected into the systems. More than 1 lakh is connected in our system. Right now, around 20% customers continue to renew the subscription. Our team is working on improving the subscription with new plans. If customers start seeing some value coming out of it with such a low cost, we expect to see the improvements in subscription.
What kind of efforts were put in to stay connected with this technology and were any fresh investments made?
Our investment is zero. The current team is already working on this for the last two years and the centre is officially opened after various pilots. We have our own data centres, and this facility can house 70 people to cater the issues 24/7. As a cross-function team with experienced in field service and product development resolves the issues. Our team has conducted the pilot in the four states Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka.
How much turnaround time can be improved with the uptime centre?
We have just started the pilot. It's very difficult for me to quantify. We need to probably look at the data after 1 year of full operations of this uptime solution center.
Any specific plans for the mining areas where the uptime should be higher?
There we have a different plan. We have started this initiative called exit support for tippers. So there, you need to provide them support at this site itself and the site will open and get connected with the solution.
What are the subscription rates for the customer to get connected their vehicles and get these supports?
It's very nominal. It is approximately Rs 15,000 for 4-5 years. It is something like a monthly rental which you pay to telecommunication companies.
Why don't you come up with the comprehensive package included subscription at the time of sales?
There is a lot of process on subscription plans. It depends on the customer requirements to use or not to use. With the Alert and the uptime solutions, customers can see the value of the product which bought for around Rs 40-50 lakhs. It is not only about the track and trace, but also about the health of the vehicle. With these advanced systems, our customers can monitor the efficiency of the vehicle, monitor the driver’s riding behaviour, fuel theft, preventive maintenance, diagnostics and reports with previous data’s.
