IP Rings and UK’s Eminox to establish emission tech JV in Chennai

Chennai/ UK Chennai based IP Rings Ltd (IRPL)1 of Amalgamations Group, a manufacturer of components for engine, gearbox and turbocharger has entered into an agreement with Eminox Ltd2 of United Kingdom to set up a technical centre 50:50 joint venture (JV) in Chennai for design, development and manufacturing of full Exhaust Aftertreatment Systems (EATS) ‘to cost effectively meet the Indian BS/TREM V off-highway3 and BS VI Stage 24 on-highway emissions standards.

1IPRL was established in 1991 and specialises in the manufacture of piston rings for high performance low emission engines and superior transmission gears. The Amalgamations Group operates across the farm equipment, automotive component, parts distribution, and allied engineering fields. As well as IPRL, it includes Simpsons & Co, TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment), India Pistons Ltd, Amco Batteries and TAFE Access.

2Eminox was established in 1978, with its head office and manufacturing facilities in Lincolnshire, UK and Shanghai, China. It designs and makes exhaust and emissions control systems for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. It supplies bus, truck, non-road mobile machinery, marine and rail manufacturers globally, as well as being the major European supplier of emissions control exhaust systems for retrofit to vehicles already in service.

3BS (CEV/Trem) V standards, starting from April 1, 2024, cover Off highway vehicles of a wider range of engines, including those smaller than 8 kW and those larger than 560 kW, and introduce PN limits for those engines with rated power between 19 and 560 kW.

4BS VI Stage 2 will kick in from April 2022. In stage II CO2 stands reduced to less than 113 gm/km and could be further tightened to 108 or 104 gm/km.
