Munich, Germany- MAN Truck & Bus and ABB E-mobility have announced a collaborative effort at CES 2024 to advance electric heavy-duty vehicle charging. The partnership focuses on the development of megawatt charging systems (MCS) tailored for the specific needs of logistics customers.

The primary goal of the collaboration is to create MCS technology, allowing charging capacities exceeding one megawatt for long-distance trucks and buses. Thomas Nickels, Senior Vice President Engineering at MAN said that,MCS represents a paradigm shift in electromobility, requiring collaboration across the entire industry.Together with ABB E-mobility, we’re tackling these challenges head-on, accelerating standardization and ensuring reliable technology for our customers”.

The three-year agreement goes beyond internal development, emphasizing early software and interoperability tests to ensure smooth vehicle-to-charging station interactions. Floris van de Klashorst, Senior Vice President Products & Hardware Platforms at ABB E-mobility said that, High performance, reliability, and customer confidence are critical for electromobility success,By working with MAN from the get-go, we’ll deliver solutions that meet the specific demands of logistics operators, with a first product targeted for 2025.

The partnership envisions extending MCS applications beyond logistics to sectors like motorhomes and coaches. Both companies commit to developing adaptable and sustainable solutions, recognizing the unique challenges and user behaviors in these segments.

This collaboration signifies a step towards integrating heavy-duty electric vehicles seamlessly into the transportation network, combining MAN’s commercial vehicle expertise with ABB’s leadership in EV charging technology for a cleaner, more efficient future.
