Solaris to Supply 19 Hydrogen Buses to Ruhrbahn GmbH

Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., a company that makes hydrogen buses has an agreement with Ruhrbahn GmbH, a transport company, to deliver 19 cutting-edge hydrogen buses to Essen, Germany. Delivery of nine Urbino 12 hydrogen models and ten Urbino 18 hydrogen models is part of the order. This operator's first command is this one. The expected delivery years are 2024 and 2025.

The ordered buses will be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells that generate electrical energy onboard. The 12-meter models will use a 70 kW fuel cell, while the articulated buses will have a 100 kW fuel cell. All models will be powered by central electric motors. Urbino hydrogen buses will also feature Solaris High Power batteries designed to support the fuel cell during increased activity.

The Urbino hydrogen vehicles will feature air conditioning with a CO2 device and a heat pump heating function. Each bus will include practical USB chargers and a comprehensive passenger information system. Safety enhancements, such as turn-assistants and brake-assistants from GSR2 Systems, will be incorporated. The operator has chosen eSConnect, Solaris' proprietary tool, for full access to performance data.

Hydrogen technology interest is growing in Europe, with Solaris as the leading manufacturer of hydrogen buses. They have over 700 vehicles on order, with 180 already in service and 530 scheduled for delivery soon. The German market, especially active in hydrogen-powered buses, has Urbino hydrogen buses operating in various cities. Future contracts include cities like Aschaffenburg, Krefeld, Güstrow, Gross-Gerau, Hamburg, and Duisburg.
