Shunyi, China- Beijing Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd. is an automobile manufacturing, has officially launched its first pure electric SUV, the ELEXIO, built on the Hyundai Motor Group's global electric vehicle platform, E-GMP. As a flagship model in the brand's new energy strategy, the ELEXIO aims to carve a new path in the competitive electric vehicle market by focusing on technology upgrades and a localized design approach.
The introduction of the ELEXIO marks a significant milestone for Beijing Hyundai in the pure electric vehicle sector. The E-GMP platform, previously used in several Hyundai global models, offers benefits such as modular design, high compatibility, and optimized battery layouts. Official data reveals that the ELEXIO boasts a cruising range of over 700 kilometers under normal conditions (test standards still to be confirmed) and supports fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes. If actual performance aligns with these figures, the ELEXIO will rank among the top contenders in the mainstream electric SUV segment.
The ELEXIO's exterior design breaks away from the brand's previous models, presenting a distinctive electrification aesthetic. It features a front through-type lamp group with crystal-textured daytime running lights, a floating roof, segmented waistlines, hidden door handles, and an active air intake grille, all contributing to improved aerodynamics. A standout feature is the two-stage high-mounted brake light integrated with a rear-facing camera, blending form and function.
Inside, the ELEXIO adopts a "minimalist" design, eliminating physical buttons in favor of a 27-inch HUD for driving information display. The car is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip and uses a large language model (LLM) for advanced voice interaction, pushing its user interface to the forefront of the industry. In addition to basic functions like navigation and media, the system includes applications for games and KTV, expanding the in-car experience to encompass the idea of a "third space."
On the driving assistance front, the ELEXIO integrates the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving Solution and outlines future technology upgrades, including a memory parking function in 2025 and L2+ city-assisted driving in 2026. The synergy between hardware and software could play a key role in enhancing the vehicle's intelligent capabilities.
The ELEXIO represents only the beginning of Beijing Hyundai's electrification journey. Over the next three years, the company plans to introduce a diverse range of electrified models, including pure electric, hybrid, and extended-range vehicles, with a goal of launching 2-3 new models per year. With its localized design elements, such as Chinese aesthetic touches and the Hongmeng system, as well as its advanced technical specifications (like the 8295 chip and 700 km range), the ELEXIO sets a new benchmark for joint venture automakers navigating the challenges of the electrification transition.
