Igus introduces snapchain 2.0

Cologne, Germany- Igus GmbH., an German manufacturer and distributor of technical products has now developed the snapchain 2.0 especially for low-stress and flat cable packages. The energy supply system consists of just one side link, to which cables can be fixed with cable tiewraps. It is made entirely of recyclate, so it is a sustainable solution.

Kira Weller, Product Manager for e-chains at igus said that, 20 years ago, igus created the snapchain as a solution to this issue. The cables are joined to and steered in a specific bend radius by a single side link. It has proven itself in countless applications around the world and can fit in the smallest of locations. "We would like to give our customers even more flexibility in chain harnessing," igus after improving the snapchain. Because of this, we modified the design so that the cables may now be securely fastened with common cable ties. Simply pass the cable tiewrap around the cable package and into the side link before fastening it. The snapchain 2.0's use of igumid CG recycling material in its standard edition is another unique feature.

From old to new

The energy chains used to make the igumid CG are all recycled. Igus has been accepting discarded energy chains, from any manufacturer, as part of the Chainge initiative since 2019. The material is then cleaned, classified by type, and restored to new quality all in one step. Igumid CG is created from the substance at that point, and it has been successfully utilized in the E2.1 cradle-chain energy chain series since the spring of 2022. Its tensile force and breaking moment have been proven by numerous test series conducted in the 3,800 square meter internal laboratory at the igus facility in Cologne. The circular economy is supported by the use of e-chains made from recycled materials, which contribute significantly to resource conservation. The Environment Product Declaration states that this cycle of sustainable raw materials also cuts CO2 by 28%."The snapchain 2.0 is an all-around affordable package. It offers our consumers a durable, dependable, and easy-to-assemble product. It is the second chain series, of which we produce the standard version using recycled materials. It can also be completely recycled once its useful life is through," adds Weller.
