Valeo and Tecnobus sign an agreement to prepare the future of mobility in Ferentino.
Date: November 15, 2023Paris, France- Valeo Inc., the Group produces technologies for thermal management of the vehicles, and HVAC units in particular, for Italian OEMs. Over the past 50 years, Ferentino has developed incredible skills and knowledge. However, with the acceleration of electrification, the activity of the site has been slowly decreasing as OEMs focus more and more on electric vehicles, which do not use the kind of systems produced in the Ferentino site. As a result, Valeo has been looking for new opportunities to preserve the expertise and secure the future of the site and its people.
Tecnobus Industries SRL., is an Italian manufacturer of electric powered minibuses established since 1998 and already present in Ferentino. They are looking to increase their footprint to support the rapid ramp up of their production as demand for electric mobility booms.
As per the agreement signed by the groups, Tecnobus will take over Valeo’s site before the end of the year. To be in a position to start the new production lines quickly, Tecnobus intends to leverage the existing industrial capabilities as well as the skills of the 55-strong workforce, who will all be offered positions. This acquisition is part of a larger investment plan of 30 million euros. Tecnobus intends to further develop the existing facilities as well as to recruit more than 100 people.
Mr. Maurizio Martinelli, Valeo Group President Italy, said that, With automobiles becoming safer, greener, and electric, the automotive industry is undergoing the most significant upheaval in its history. Valeo anticipates how the development and industrialization of new technologies will affect its operations and workforce, but it is also looking for new ways to capitalize on the decades-long experience amassed at its facilities. With Tecnobus taking over, there's a fantastic chance to ensure the site and its residents' futures while also using their knowledge to further electric vehicle research throughout Europe and Italy. At Valeo, we're dedicated to providing solutions for more economical and environmentally friendly mobility, and we can't wait to keep enhancing the Italian ecosystem through our other locations there.
Mr. Paolo Marini, CEO Tecnobus, said that, Most likely the oldest manufacturer of electric minibuses is Tecnobus. Tecnobus was the market leader in electric minibus sales in 47 major cities worldwide in the past few years, despite having stopped manufacture a while ago. By the end of 2021, we hope to have reclaimed that leadership position with our acquisition. We are thrilled to continue on our incredible adventure of providing solutions for more sustainable collective mobility through the use of our electric technology, as Tecnobus expands and the demand for our goods soars. Leveraging the skills and heritage built by Valeo, we are looking forward to welcoming the new workforce and getting ready to start the production in our new location in Ferentino.
